Hello There, I was Baptised at St.John's in 1953 and Confirmed by the late Bishop of Stepney, Trevor Huddleston in 1967, I have always been very proud of that fact. I went to The Rams Episcopal Infants School, when the Headmistress was Miss Relf. I then went onto the Primary School in Isabella Road ~ Headmaster Mr. Holdsworth. Both School were The Hackney Free and Parochoial Schools. I belonged to the 1st. Hackney ( St. John's) Brownies & Guides who met in the DEN which my Father helped to build as he was a member of the 14th Hackney Rover Crew. I was also a member of the Y.C.F. (Young Communicants Fellowship)who's base was in the "J" Club in Hackney Grove. We were part of the group who took the folk play "Jonah" written by our Curate Rev. Colin Hodgetts to the Edinburgh Fringe Theatre ~ an unforgettable experience! Being a member of St. John's during the late 50's & 60's was a very important part of of formative years. Thanks for the trip down memory Lane! Great Website. I now belong to St. Peter's Church, Sheringham ~ have a look at our recently launched website!

Just read your latest magazine ~ is the Phyllis J Manning ( page 3 'Red Sky at Night' piece) the same Mrs. Manning that used to teach in the Primary School, and who had children Penny, Simon and Luke? If it is Say "Hi" to her for me please ~ I'm sure she'll remember the Batchelors! Thank You

know you are busy people but could you possibly give me any information about my father, Cyril Elliott Winn who came from Cuddeson to be assistant Priest at St. Johns ,Hackney in about 1910. He was organ scholar at Exeter College Oxford and left in 1908, having been a chorister at St Paul's Cathedral for 8 years and at Highgate school for 2 years I don't know where he was ordained but do know he went on to serve in a Poplar parish later on. Thank you. Richard Winn, Bristol

My parents were married in St. John at Hackney during the blitz in 1941. Can you tell me if the church was damaged during the war as I have a recollection of my mum telling me it was.

My Gt. Grandmother was baptised at St. John at Hackney in Jan. 1847. Her name was Mary Ann Stone, her mother was Ann Stone (no father mentioned). I would really like to see the original entry and whether godparents were mentioned. Thank you.
