ST JOHN-AT-HACKNEY CHURCHYARD GARDENS

Through schools’ workshops and sessions, family events and activities, arts and cultural experiences, my aim in this post is to engage the whole community in learning about and enjoying this important heritage site.  A beautiful and well-loved green space, the churchyard gardens are also the site of Hackney’s old church of St Augustine’s, dating back to at least 1275.  With famous and not-so-famous burials, important monuments, and the medieval tower of the old church, the whole site is rich with many layers of social history and the potential for learning, creative and leisure experiences all year round.
